Frequently asked income tax questions
General answers to the questions I am asked most often. Requirements vary by taxpayer circumstances and by the law in force at the time.
What documents are needed to prepare an individual income tax return?
Typically an annual income statement or salary certificate, bank statements or interest certificates, evidence of rental or business income, records of expenses you wish to claim, and identification details. The exact list depends on your income sources, so a proper checklist is issued after our first discussion rather than published in advance.
How do I request tax assistance?
Use the enquiry form, call the number listed here, or send an email. All three reach the same place. I aim to reply within a few working days, although response time is usually longer during filing season.
Do you assist salaried individuals?
Yes. Year-end assistance for salaried individuals is a routine part of this practice — reviewing the figures reported on your income statement, checking them against your own records, and preparing the return for your review.
Do you assist business owners?
Yes, within an income tax scope. The approach starts with your records rather than the return: organising receipts and payments, identifying allowable expenses, then preparing the computation and return documentation. Anything falling outside income tax work is discussed up front.
How are fees determined?
Fees depend on the complexity of the case, the volume of records and the scope agreed. There is no fixed price list because the work varies. You receive a fee discussion before any work begins, and nothing is charged until the scope is agreed.
Can I contact you before preparing my documents?
Yes, and it is recommended. An initial discussion establishes whether this assistance suits your situation and lets me give you an accurate checklist, so you do not gather the wrong papers.
Can you provide assistance remotely?
Yes. Most of the work can be done remotely by phone or email using digital copies of your documents, with an in-person meeting in Dhaka if it is useful. Very large volumes of physical records may require a meeting to review efficiently.
Are my documents kept confidential?
Client information is treated as confidential and used only for the purpose agreed. This website has no document-upload feature, never asks for passwords or identity documents, and stores nothing you type into the enquiry form. If you send documents, that is done by email rather than through this site.
Are you still working in audit?
No. My full-time role since September 2026 is Deputy Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis at Akij Resource Limited. My audit experience of five years with Rahman Rahman Huq, Chartered Accountants (KPMG in Bangladesh) shapes how I approach tax work, but I am no longer employed in audit practice.
These answers are general and are not tax advice for your specific case. Tax rates, thresholds and filing deadlines change, which is why none are quoted here. Confirm current requirements for the relevant assessment year before acting.
